Japanese Style Keepsake Box in Curly Maple and Figured American Walnut

Curly Maple Japanese Style Keepsake Box


This keepsake box is a scaled down version of a traditional Japanese toolbox, inspired by one of my favorite woodworkers, Adrian Preda. It features a puzzle type lid with a sliding dovetail locking mechanism to keep the box closed.

The main body of the box is Curly Maple, a domestic hardwood that has ripples in the grain which give a three dimensional look. The dovetail key and accents of the box is made of lightly figured Walnut wood, also a domestic hardwood. The pin dowels are made from bamboo, known for its strength and sustainability. The interior box bottom is lined with a blue and white cloth.

The box is finished with a hand rubbed, durable natural oil and wax blend, free of toxins and VOC’s, that leaves a beautiful sheen with a pleasing natural feel to the wood.

This box is perfect for storing pens and pencils, jewelry, sentimental items, as a valet, or perfect to keep as a display piece by itself.

Interior Dimensions: 6-1/2" long X 3-9/16" wide X 1-3/4" tall
